UCI Copier Technician Receives National Award

Jason Huff standing in front of Kyocera sign holding awardUCI employee Jason Huff has received national recognition for his outstanding work as a Kyocera copier technician. After taking a pre-qualifying test in September 2013, along with 390 technicians in the region, Jason moved on the regional meet. His test scores awarded him an invite to Irving, Texas to compete in the 5- State Southwest Regional meet for Kyocera’s National Service Award.

The all-day meet in November required Jason to compete in two stages. The first stage was a timed, closed-book written test. The second state was a hands-on copier troubleshooting test. After combining the written test score and the troubleshooting score, which required participants to solve 3 trouble scenarios within 30-minute windows, Jason came out on top and took first place in the Southwest Region.

On December 13, Jason flew back to Irving, Texas to compete in another all-day event against other top regional finalists. It was a grueling, stressful competition, Jason says. But Jason’s hard word and determination paid off, and UCI is proud to announce Jason took home third place in the National Service Competition.

“It was a lot of fun and I’m proud of it… I know there are a lot of great technicians out there,” says Jason.

There are approximately 30,000 Kyocera approved technicians in the country, and only a select few are chosen to compete in the contest. This is a huge accomplishment for UCI as well as the Amarillo copier business community, agrees Jason and UCI president Don Carver.

“I would like to thank UCI technicians John Stich and Bryant Dees in my preparation for the Regional and National meet,” Jason adds. “I would also like to thank President Don Carver for allowing me to compete in the 2013 Kyocera National Service Award.”
