Xerox VS Kyocera: Comparing A Known Brand To A Relative Newcomer
Calendar Tuesday, February 26th, 2019
The competition in the world of copiers and printers is fierce. Every brand is constantly improving, developing, and releasing new products in the hopes of staying one step ahead of the game. Xerox is a veteran brand with a large following compared to the newer and less renowned Kyocera. But, which brand’s machines are better? Here’s a brief look at how the two brands compare.
A brief history of Xerox
Xerox began in 1906 as The Haloid company, which manufactured photographic paper. It was renamed Haloid Xerox in 1958 after it gained the rights to the xerography imaging process in 1947. The brand experienced an astounding amount of success and quickly branched out into several different sectors.
Xerox developed word processing machines in 1974, laser printers in 1977, Ethernet in 1979, and digital photocopiers in the 1990s. After receiving several awards for its outstanding products and services, Xerox became the most recognized name in the printer and copier industry.
Recently, however, the business has been facing a decline in revenue as it has been unable to keep up with the changing times. In 2018, Xerox announced it would be acquired by Fujifilm (a long time partner of Xerox), but called it off because shareholders believed the deal was undervalued.
A brief history of Kyocera
Kyocera started out producing ceramic insulators for television tubes back in the 1960’s. As time went on, the company grew and branched out to start making other products. In 2000, Kyocera merged with the Mita Industrial Company to create Kyocera Mita Corporation. This is now known as Kyocera Document Solutions Corporation.
Today, the company manufactures a wide range of products such as copiers, multipurpose printers, and toner cartridges. It’s only been in the copier industry for about 18 years, but Kyocera has quickly become one of the most successful copier brands in the world.
Does Xerox or Kyocera have better machines?
When Xerox and Kyocera are compared to each other in the context of office equipment, Kyocera takes the cake. The younger brand’s products are much more affordable and easier to maintain. Xerox’s machines tend to be less reliable, which can drive the cost of maintenance up. Kyocera’s printers and copiers are user-friendly and use a common driver. One unique feature Kyocera has is the ability to “mimic” the colors of other brands. If you used a different brand and like the way its colors look, Kyocera can replicate the same results.
Xerox is a good brand, but not as everyday office equipment. In the world of production equipment, Xerox is second to none. Most print shops nowadays will always have a Xerox printer or copier in use. In the world of office equipment, however, Xerox just can’t compare to the power of Kyocera.
