Calendar Tuesday, November 5th, 2013
When your office copier breaks down, it is easy to panic and not use good judgment about tackling the issue. It is important to stay calm and remember basic troubleshooting methods. First step: Don’t kick it. That won’t help the matter. With these few simple tips, though, you will be able to diagnose and fix the problem at hand. When you are able to fix a copier yourself, you may even be able to save yourself a few dollars.
Troubleshooting
The first step for fixing a copier is determining the cause of the problem. Until you know why your copier isn’t working, you won’t be able to fix the issue. Check out one or more of the following:
- Paper jam. Open the front of a copier. If you can see a paper jam, follow the instructions that are printed on the interior of the machine. Store copier paper in a cool, dry place to reduce the risk of moist and/or curled paper causing jams.
- Dirty glass. Use a cloth and copier specific glass cleaner to clear the glass of paper dust, ink, and any additional materials. Complete this cleaning process on a regular basis to ensure clean glass that is free of debris.
- Empty toner cartridge. Typically lighter or darker copier pages are the result of an empty or nearly empty toner cartridge . Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for changing the cartridge.
Read the manual
If you run into issues solving any of the previously mentioned issues or you still can’t figure out what is wrong, pull out the copier manual. Make sure to follow any instructions in the manual in full. Straying from the directions may make the issue even worse.
