Does Paper Quality Affect My Copier?
Calendar Monday, January 12th, 2015
Many organizations consider cost above all other factors when it comes to copier paper. They buy the paper that is the cheapest, believing the money they save will be better spent elsewhere. You get what you pay for, and copier paper is no exception. The copies you make are a direct reflection of your business. Using cheap paper that produces faded, smudged or crooked copies reflects poorly on your company. The following details just a few benefits of using high-quality copier paper.
Uniform Cut And Size
Most people assume that paper is always the size that is listed on the package and don’t take the time to measure it. The next time you open a new pack of copier paper, measure one of the sheets. Cheap paper isn’t always cut precisely, which means that it’s more likely to jam. A 1/16” difference in size may not seem significant, but it will leave paper flopping around or getting stuck in the paper drawer. Paying a little bit more for high-quality paper greatly reduces the number of paper jams and service calls.
Cleaner Copier
Cheap copier paper produces a lot of dust that builds up inside of the machine, which also results in more paper jams and service calls. With high-quality paper, you don’t have to worry about taking extra time to clear out this dust.
Retains Shape
Cheap copier paper often has a higher moisture content, which makes it curl more easily. Curled paper looks less professional, is tougher to work with and also results in more paper jams and service calls.
In addition to selecting a high-quality paper, you should also think about the type of paper you need for specific types of copying. For example, if you make a lot of color copiers, it is important to select paper that is designed for color copying. Color copying creates a blend of four different colors on the top of the paper as opposed to fusing the color into the paper. Quality color paper keeps the color on top where it needs to stay to prevent faded copies.
You also want to avoid ink jet and coated papers for copiers. Copiers use heat, which melts inkjet and coated papers, creating a big mess.
