What’s the best way to clean a copier?
Before you clean your copier for the first time, read the instruction manual in full. It should have detailed steps for handling and caring for the machine. As every copier brand is different, it is important to review this information even if you have cleaned other copiers in the past. Make sure to review the recommended list of cleaning supplies and to gather any necessary jobs before cleaning the machine. You should turn off the copier and unplug it before you start cleaning.
If there are dust or other particles on the copy machine scanner glass, the quality of the scan may be reduced. Regular cleaning minimizes the risk of dust. When you do clean the glass, choose an anti-static cleaner liquid intended for use in copy machines.
The toner and paper attach in the drum of the copier. The drum is attached to a toner cartridge and uses high intensity light to produce copies. Cleaning the drum periodically takes out excess toner for improved quality output. Locate the Mylar bar, which is a rubber or plastic blade, inside the machine and use it to clean the drum. Then clean the fuser, which is the component in the copier that melts and presses toner image onto the paper. Apply a very light coat of silicon oil on a cloth and rub it gently on the fuser until it is clean. Take a second clean dry cloth to dry the fuser.
Finally, to improve printing quality, you must clean and vacuum the toner copier on a regular basis. This process ensures that the ink flows continuously and consistently for clean professional copiers. Do not use an ordinary vacuum for this process, as the toner's static charge can accumulate in the vacuum, resulting an electric shock, or worse, a fire. Select a special toner vacuum made for cleaning copiers.
Who can I speak with about my office copier?
If you are ever unclear about a specific part of a copier or a product to use for cleaning the machine, speak with an experienced technician or reputable copier dealer.
